Makeup Tips for Women Who Wear Glasses

FacebookTwitterGoogle+TumblrPinterest

My vision started to go bad in my 20s, and for years I primarily wore contacts. But after picking up a really cute pair of frames last year, I’ve been wearing them more often than not. Having my glasses on changes my whole vibe, and I’ve found that I have to alter my approach to makeup when I wear them. In my humble opinion, it looks best to keep it simple and clean. Follow the steps below to learn how to best complement your glasses and make your eyes pop behind your frames.

  • Conceal Flaws 2 of 9

Start with your normal base routine. For me, this typically means foundation primer, foundation, and concealer.

    I used:

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, Smashbox $36

Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15, Clinique $27

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, Yves Saint Laurent $40

  • Fill Eyebrows 3 of 9

You may think this would be a step to skip when you are wearing glasses, but eyebrows can get lost behind frames. Filling in your brows really helps to frame your face and create a polished look.

  • Brighten Lids 4 of 9

As I said in the introduction to this post, it's best to keep your look nice and clean. If I wear shadow under my glasses, I stick to light, warm colors to help brighten my eyes. Dark and cool shadows look too heavy behind glasses and close the eye. Sweep a light, shimmery color on lids and blend it upward just beyond your crease. For even more pop, you can dab a little highlighter right in the center of your lid.

  • Line Your Eyes 5 of 9

Next you will need to apply a heavy line of eyeliner along the top lash line and keep the lower lash line bare. If you want your eyes to appear defined under your glasses, this step is essential. In this picture, one eye has been lined and the other has not, so that you can see the difference.

  • Use Dark Mascara 6 of 9

Curl lashes if necessary, and apply a couple coats of mascara to further emphasize eyes. Subtle shades will be hard to see under lenses; choose a bold color like black or very dark brown.

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara is available at Drugstore $8.53

  • Add a Rosy Glow 7 of 9

A nice rosy glow creates a youthful and fresh look, which is even more important when wearing glasses. Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend outward.

  • Choose a Bold Lipcolor 8 of 9

A beautiful bold lip is another one of my absolute essentials when wearing my glasses. It provides a nice balance to the minimal eye makeup and today's bold frames.
