My Beauty Routine: Start To Finish

FacebookTwitterGoogle+TumblrPinterest

Getting a sneak peek “behind the curtain” into other people’s beauty routines is one of my favorite things, so I thought I’d follow suit and share mine with you all today! Here’s a look at all the steps in my beauty routine from start to finish, including all the hair, skin, and makeup products that I love most. I don’t do this entire routine daily, but for the most part this is my go-to routine.

My Beauty Routine: Start To Finish

These are the things I use in the shower to set the stage for the rest of my beauty routine. I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to beauty, except in the shower. Having well cared for skin and hair starts here, so this is where I use the bulk of my products. I almost ALWAYS shower at night, so before I jump in the shower, I take off any eye makeup that is still lingering from the day using Murad's Renewing Cleansing Oil, which I love. In the shower, I start off by washing my face with Korres Milk Protein 3-in-1 Cleanser alongside my Clarisonic Mia 2 (totally obsessed with this). Next, I wash my hair with SheaMoisture African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo and follow up with the Purification Masque. I have scalp psoriasis, and I've read good things about this, so I'm testing it out. Hopefully I'll have results to share soon. While the masque is on my hair, I slather on Murad's Intensive-C Radiance Peel face mask to rinse off at the same time as my hair mask. While I'm waiting for these to work their magic, I scrub down with Aveeno Baby Wash and shave using Kiss My Face Shave Lotion and my Venus razor.

My Beauty Routine: Start To Finish

So here's what I look like fresh out of the shower. Wet hair, no makeup. My "before" photo, if you will.

Next up is my post-shower routine. While my skin is still slightly damp from the shower, I apply Murad Advanced Active Radiance Serum all over my face, neck, and chest, and apply Murad Instant Radiance Eye Cream under my eyes and above my eyelids (along the brow bone). If it's before bed (which it usually is), then I layer Murad's Essential-C Night Moisture over top. I will admit that Murad products are pricey, but they are totally worth it (read my review here). I swipe some Rose Salve on my lips to moisturize while I sleep, as well as some deodorant. I don't really sweat much, so I don't always wear deodorant, but swiping it on at night helps keep my arm pits moisturized more than anything, and I am totally a Dove loyalist.

Holy sister wife hair! This is what my hair looks like when it air dries. Sometimes I blow dry it if there are still wet spots, but I try to give my hair at least a little break from the heat where I can, and honestly, I don't really feel like blow drying makes much of a difference with my hair compared the air drying, since I still have to use a curling wand after. If I knew how to give myself a pro-style blowout, then I would definitely be into blow drying.

I don't really use much to prep my hair before styling. I've found that it doesn't really make a huge difference aside from costing me more money and adding to product build-up. Before I start, I spray a big amount of Suave Dry Shampoo at my roots. It gives a bit of volume and also soaks up any greasiness that settled in over night. Then I spray a bit of Chi 44 Iron Guard (specifically to my ends) before I start curling. I use Conair roller clips to separate my hair while I'm curling it with my Bed Head 1" Curlipop curl wand. I brush each section before I curl and then spray each curl as I go with Garnier Fructis Anti-Humidity Hairspray. Oh, and that brush ... SO embarrassing! Pretty sure I've had it since college, and it's missing a ton of bristles and it pretty much sucks, but I don't really style my hair with a hair brush, so I keep procrastinating getting a better one. A beauty blogger shameful secret, I know.

Before I get started with my makeup, I put on Murad Essential-C Day Moisture as my SPF and follow it with Korres Primer.

My Beauty Routine: Start To Finish

Until this year, I never used any type of foundation or even a tinted moisturizer (blasphemous, I know). I just always thought they made my skin look plasticky and made me feel heavy, but I'm in love with Dr. Jart Premium Beauty Balm. It makes my entire look more polished, and I've gotten so many compliments on my skin since I started using it. I've tried the black label variety of this BB cream, but I like this one better, because it's a little lighter coverage-wise. My nose tends to get shiny, so I dab a teensy bit of Cover Girl pressed powder on it and swipe some Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee (in Poppy Paradise) on my cheeks. I LOVE the cheek gel. Feels so cool in the pot, and it's pretty much fool-proof.

This is what my finished face looks like. Now onto the eyes, where some much-needed under-eye concealer will be happening.

My Beauty Routine: Start To Finish

I'm kind of a concealer snob. Dark under-eye circles are probably the biggest thorn in my side beauty-wise, and I've tried a TON (seriously, I tried like 20 different concealers at Sephora one day amongst others I've tried on my own) and most of them suck. They're too yellow, too green, they don't cover well enough, or they cover too well and look fake. But this Laura Mercier Secret Concealer is perfect. It has a great consistency and goes on easily and covers well without looking like "too much." After concealer, I swipe on the gold shadow from this Revlon quad that is like a million years old. Seriously ... a million. One of the shadows broke, but I still keep using it. I should probably upgrade, but I only swipe a little on my lid, so it's not a huge part of my routine. After my shadow, I line just my upper eyelid with a super thin line courtesy of NYX's Super Skinny Eye Marker — way easier than liquid liner and more crisp than a pencil. To finish, I add a coat of Cover Girl 24hr Lash Blast to my upper lashes.

My Beauty Routine: Start To Finish

Fact: I have 8,932 lip products. Okay ... that may be a slight exaggeration, but honestly, I have a ton. I love lipstick and wear it almost daily. I truly believe that nothing finishes off a look quite like lipstick can. Currently, my favorite combo is Maybelline's Baby Lips Lip Balm in Cherry Me, with a tiny swipe of MAC lipstick in Impassioned.

My Beauty Routine: Start To Finish

And there you have it! My makeup routine start to finish. It may seem like a lot of products, but I promise this is a super easy routine, because I am a real person and don't have tons of time. I don't do this entire routine every day, but when I do have the time, I feel so much more confident and put together!
