My Daily Beauty Routine In DepthChristine Mikesell
Watching someone else’s daily beauty routine is a bit like looking into their medicine cabinet. It’s something that we all want to do and are curious about, but showing off your naked face and revealing how much concealer you really need? Maybe not so much fun to show off!
The Babble Beauty bloggers are getting ready to show off their entire daily beauty routine, start to finish. I snapped a few quick pictures while getting ready for my day on Friday (having the toddler down for a nap was key to this look!), and start to finish, this look took 20 minutes.
Before and After 1 of 10
I wasn't planning much of anything special on this day, but wanted to look polished and like "myself" if I ran an errand or had an impromptu backyard play date with the neighbors. I started fresh out of the shower (frog robe included) and finished up in a black t-shirt dress with hair and makeup completed.
Quick Blow Dry 2 of 10
I recently chopped off my hair, and my new cut is much faster than my long hair! I applied about 5 drops of Redken Diamond Oil Shine Intense ($40) to my hair, and then a nickel-sized amount of Oscar Blandi Pronto Instant Glossing Cream ($21). Once I had combed everything through from roots to tips, I started drying my hair. I've been using my Goody QuikStyle Half-Round Styler Brush ($12) to help smooth everything out and cut down on drying time.
Correct Redness and Look Awake 3 of 10
I had been up a couple of times the night before with my two-year-old, so I was feeling very tired. You can definitely see it in my under-eye area! I had already applied my favorite daytime moisturizer right out of the shower, and after a few minutes of drying my hair, I was ready for makeup.
I started with my FACE Stockholm Corrective Concealer in Neutralizer Red. I have mild rosacea, and today I had a little extra redness on my nose and the center of my face. A little dab of this slightly green concealer, and it is all gone!
Next I mix a little of my Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm ($38) with Amazing Cosmetics Concealer ($42). I use 3 or 4 parts BB Cream with 1 part concealer, depending on how much coverage I need. I smear this around my face with my fingers, concentrating in the center and feathering it out. I do bounce a Beauty Blender sponge on it, but I don't apply my full concealer yet (I'll use the same one so it all blends seamlessly). I wait until after my eyes are done so I can clean up fall-out from my shadows first.
Starting my Eyes 4 of 10
I always, always, always prime my lids. Without primer shadows only last about 6-8 hours on my lids, so spending a few extra seconds only makes sense! I love to use the NYX Eye Shadow Base ($7), which offers a little bit of coverage for my veiny lids in addition to better wear for my shadows. I used a large fluff brush, the ELF Eyeshadow C Brush ($3). to create a pretty wash of color over my entire lid, up and over the crease. I don't go up onto the brow bone. I used Too Faced Eye Shadow in Glamazon (discontinued), one of my favorites for a wash.
Contouring the Lid 5 of 10
I have a lot of "lid real estate" according to many a MAC makeup artist. It means I'm a great one for lots of liner, but without a little something in the crease my eye can look too one dimensional. So, I always put a little something in my crease! My favorite crease color is Wet n Wild Nutty Eye Shadow ($2), which offers some depth but is light enough that I can just brush it on quickly without needing to be very precise. I used my ELF Contour Brush ($3).
Lining my Eyes 6 of 10
I'm a sucker for eye liners (did you see my 21 Eye Liners that are NOT Black?), but today I just reached for brown. Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Matte Brown 25L ($19) was applied roughly to my upper and lower lids. I tried to really get the liner into my upper lash line, but didn't worry too much about making the line perfect since I would be smudging it.
Next I grabbed my beloved Sonia Kashuk Kashuk Tools Shader Brush No 123 ($9.19) and ran it across my liner to blur it out a little (please ignore my 3-week-old Shellac mani, I finally soaked it off after doing this look). You can see that afterward the liner is much softer.
Brows 7 of 10
Eyebrows are one thing I used to almost completely ignore, but as I've gotten older it has finally dawned on me that filling them in is well worth spending a minute! I am blessed with thick eye brows, but they do need a little definition and filling in. I used IT Cosmetics Your Brows But Better Brow Power Skinny Pencil ($24) in the brow and then highlighted with the matte end of my Boom Boom Push-Up Brow Highlighting Pencil right under the brow.
You can read more on how I fill in my eyebrows.
Mascara and Lots of It! 8 of 10
I'm a big believer in big and over-the-top lashes, but I refuse to use falsies. I didn't even wear them at my wedding, I rely on a lot of mascara. I have a lot of tricks to get amazing eyelashes with just mascara, but today I've just put on two coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara ($23). It adds great volume and length without needing to layer multiple products.
Finish My Face 9 of 10
To finish off my face I applied a little more concealer to my under eye area. I apply it in a triangle, the 3 points are my inner eye, outer eye and the tip of my nose. Most of the concealer is at the top, and I feather it out as I head down and out. Don't forget your inner eye area! Hitting that corner with some concealer will help make you look more awake.
I then grabbed my Too Faced The Secret To No Makeup Makeup Fresh & Flawless Face Palette ($39) and applied a little of the cream blush to the apples of my cheeks. A light dusting of Urban Decay De-Slick Mattifying Powder ($32) to set the concealer and blush is next. Now I apply a little of the powder blush from my No Makeup Palette (layering the cream and then the powder helps a lot with staying power) and a small amount of the luminizer to my upper cheek bone.
Completed Look 10 of 10
I finished up by applying a little IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush Butter Gloss in Naturally Pretty ($24), and smoothing a few more drops of the Redken Diamond Oil through my hair to tame fly-aways and add shine. Now I'm ready for my day!
