Christian Dior wanted to make women “not only more beautiful, but happier,” and happy to flaunt their radiant beauty. Inspired by timeless archetypes of beauty and the couturier’s lush fabrics, Dior created his first makeup product in 1953, a revolutionary couture lipstick called Rouge Dior.
Historically, red was worn as a sign of social status and vitality, and understanding that a single touch of color can change one’s appearance, Dior created a revolution in red, a symbol for feminine empowerment and the art of seduction. Women could now choose lip colors to match their clothes, their moods, and their desire for expression.
It’s been 60s years since Christian Dior imagined “dressing women’s smiles,” and there have been over 1500 shades to do so with. Find more at Rouge Dior or watch the short video below.
Rouge is the color of power, passion, and revolution. Rouge is the color of life.
