Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy™ is marketing itself as a scalp treatment based on the belief that a well-nourished scalp is the place to start for strong, beautiful hair, and that for years women have been treating the wrong end.
Its so convinced its vitamin and nutrient-enriched shampoo and conditioner provide stronger hair in as little as 7 days, its providing samples via its Facebook page and a money back guarantee.
Naturally I was intrigued and decided to take the challenge, especially when I saw that Heidi Klum, one of the most glamorous moms of all-time is a spokeswoman. GAME ON Clear Scalp & Hair and Heidi Klum!
I don’t exactly have damaged hair but the change of seasons always gives me dry scalp and who doesn’t want stronger, healthier hair? In any case, I received the shampoo, conditioner, and a weekly treatment mask, which I’ve been using regularly for almost 2 weeks now. If I’m not having my hair professionally washed and blown out, I wash it myself every 2 to 3 days.
The Clear Scalp & Hair bottles are sleek and pretty and the smell of the formulas is light and pleasant. Both the shampoo and the conditioner are on the creamier side but lather up well with just a dime size portion. It’s a budget-friendly line at about $6 a bottle and available exclusively at Soap.com, Walmart, CVS, drugstore.com, Walgreens, Target, and Amazon.com.
In case you’re not familiar with your faithful buddy the scalp, it actually has 5 layers, the first few being the most significant. The first layer, the skin, contains the hair follicles and oil glands, which can both easily be clogged. Clear Scalp & Hair recommends gently scrubbing the scalp regularly to release the clogs, which I’m now doing more diligently. Oscar James, celebrity hair stylist and spokesperson for Clear also recommends applying conditioner to the scalp (I always heard this was a no-no) to give hair extra protection, added shine, and make it easier to untangle, “Work the conditioner through the hair with a wide-tooth comb to evenly distribute and ensure that every strand is saturated.”
As a side note, Clear’s website is filled with great tips. For example, James also recommends easing up on heat since too much can damage hair and cause breakage, not brushing hair while its wet and most vulnerable to breakage, and using leave in conditioners and treatments weekly to help seal in moisture.
VERDICT: Try it. After 7 days I can honestly say my hair is shinier and as a result looks moisturized and healthy. Both the shampoo and conditioner are on the heavier side which is fine for me during the colder months and change of season but could be a problem in the warmer months as I typically have oily hair. Applying conditioner directly to my scalp may be more nourishing but weighs my hair down and makes it more difficult for me to get lasting volume, which I always aim for. At this price point though, I think it’s worth a try, especially if you have dry or color-treated hair.
