Bread puddings are a treat I fell in love with a few years ago at the last office I worked in. Before then, I had only made bread puddings every once in a while. However, the wife of my boss used to make them every several weeks. You see, in the dental office where I worked, marketing people would bring us bagels almost every week, and there were always leftovers. So instead of letting the stale bread go to waste, she always froze it. And when she got enough leftover bagels, and whatever other breads she had saved from her own house, she would make a bread pudding. It was a smart way to never let food go to waste, and such a tasty treat!

You can use any type of leftover yeast bread you like for bread pudding, from bagels to doughnuts to sliced white bread, or any combination that sounds good to you. Then you can either tear the bread, or grind it in the food processor. The basic recipe is milk, eggs, sugar and of course bread. For additions, I like coconut, dried fruit like raisins, and cinnamon. But you can add whatever you have on hand. Bread pudding is more about not letting food go to waste, so it’s more of a free flowing type of dish that doesn’t require an exact recipe to get a really tasty result.

    Thanks for including my Champagne, Cranberry and Croissant bread pudding. It was a surprise hit. For me..not one who usually likes bread pudding. That might be changing…great list!
