I know, I know. It’s Halloween, lighten up with the healthy foods! But you have to understand, it’s a tough holiday for me. As I mentioned in this post on healthy Halloween snacks, I’m not the biggest fan of all the sweets that come with the Halloween season. But I do my best not to be a fuddy duddy, and I know that a little candy won’t hurt anyone. Lately though, I have become more concerned about what’s in that candy besides sugar. From petroleum-based food dyes to corn syrup and other sketchy additives, kids’ candy seems to have lost some of its innocence. Fortunately, there are now a host of limited ingredient, naturally sweetened and naturally colored candies available. Are these candies healthy? Of course not. But they may just give you a little peace of mind in a season of excess.
One final note, I couldn’t find an online source for natural candy corn, but I did find this recipe for making your own.
