Trifles are something I don’t make nearly enough of. I usually only make them when I mess up a layer cake by overcooking the cake layers. Making a trifle out of an overcooked cake by cutting away the dry parts has helped me salvage many dry and nearly burned cakes. But trifles shouldn’t be reserved just for salvaging overcooked cakes. They make beautiful desserts to take to potlucks and parties because they travel so well.
