Last week I posted what I thought were crazy, wacky and useless kitchen gadgets and man did I get a lot of feedback. Perhaps if I had a giant kitchen with an endless budget I could find space in my life for all of these. Until then my kitchen is small with limited storage (but I still love it!) so every gadget and appliance I buy must be a utility player. So I thought I would share some of the things I use on an almost daily basis, or that I find to be a timesaver or space saver. I am by no means an expert and would LOVE to hear what you find to be most useful in your kitchen.
I’m not here to tell you to go out and buy some fancy knives or pans or what’s the best cooking utensil. Knives and pan are an investment and cooking utensils are very personal, that’s why there are a million spatulas out there, we all have different preferences. I just want to share some of my favorite kitchen gadgets that I can’t live without.
What can I say, I super paranoid of uncooked poutry. This just puts my mind at ease and makes my husband think I’m crazy.
Ok, stop laughing. I need this. For some reason I suck at peeling oranges, my fingers turn orange and I usually end up hurting myself by getting peel shoved under my nail. This makes it so much easier for me since we a lot of oranges.
I make a lot of cupcakes, specifically mini cupcakes and it is just such a pain getting the batter into those little tiny cups. I would end up with more drizzled across the counter and all over the pan than in the actual cups. After I bought this, the job is done in no time with hardly any drips!
I’ve read so many reviews for this gadget, sure there are lots of people who love it, but there are plenty who say it’s so much faster to just do it with a knife. Well, for me this peeler and a must have, I can make an apple pie in a matter of minutes and guest are always so impressed with a fresh apple pie. I just giggle inside at how easy it really is!
This can take the place of so many things and it’s so small and easy to clean. If I could take you on a date I would.
I use this all the time for all kinds of things from grating cheese to zesting citrus to grating ginger. Heart.
I actually use these less often as baking sheet liners than I do for rolling dough onto. I find it so much easier to roll out piecrust, biscuits, puff pastry, you name it, on this than on the counter. Not to mention clean up is a snap!
I know, its not a gadget, but I use it daily. If you don’t have one of these, just go get one. Yes, they are heavy and it’s weird that you don’t use soap to wash it, but you will fall in love. I did. I have two sizes, a 10” and 12” that I use for everything from steaks to cakes. They just make everything better, including your biceps.
I had no idea how life changing a pair of scissors could be. Let me introduce you to the pair that changed mine. I use these for everything, but my favorite use is cutting up chicken. Sure I have poultry shears, but these not only work better, but they come apart and can be completely sanitized. Satisfied customer.
This practically lives in my sink at all times. I use it for draining food, washing veggies, giving the little one something to do by dumping in a pot of grapes or such for him to wash, setting washed bottles in to dry, etc. The uses are endless.
I’m a big fan of killing two bird with one stone, OK maybe figuratively only. Anyway, with this awesome beater you don’t need a spatula to scrape down the sides. How cool is that?!
This is an investment piece, but so worth it and there are always great deals to be found. I love this because you can buy all sorts of attachments instead of an entirely new gadget/appliance. For my birthday one year my sister bought me the Ice Cream maker attachment. How cool is that?!
