5 Delicious Eating Competitions: Eat Your Way Across the USA

By the time you’ve hit your mid-twenties, you have to watch the Olympics and finally admit to yourself that you will never stand on that gold-medal podium while the national anthem plays after you’ve discovered a heretofore unknown talent for javelin-throwing/kayaking/that one where you cross-country ski and then shoot targets. But if you’re athletic dreams are gone forever, you can still dream of achievement in another realm–eating lots of food quickly. You’re probably halfway to championship form already.

If you’re going to make it as a competitive eater, you’ve got to pick the records you’re setting your sights on. Everyone knows the Nathan’s Hot Dog contest at Coney Island, but that’s for the pros. You’re going to have to get started somewhere else. From oysters to bratwurst to sundaes, there are hundreds of eating competitions across the US, and thanks to The Daily Meal, we’ve compiled a list of the tastiest.nggallery id=’119759′

Love ribs? Really love ribs? Then head out to Sparks, Nevada for your chance at the $5,000 rib-eating prize. Watch out though, some of the competitive eating world's best will be in attendance, including Joey Chestnut who holds the record for eating 9.8 lbs. of meat in 12 minutes! • Kentucky: The Comfy Cow Sundae Challenge at The Comfy Cow 3 of 5

This is probably my best chance to make it in the competitive eating world, since I can do some damage in the ice cream department. To win you'll need to eat 15 scoops of ice cream and 6 jugs of toppings in under an hour. It might be harder than it sounds, though, since only one person has ever been able to do it. • New Jersey: Buffalos Chicken Shacks Annual Spicy Wing Challenge 4 of 5
