I will never forget the first time I tried scones. It was 1983, I was 14 and my mom had taken me to the Empress Hotel in Victoria, B.C. Needless to say, it was love at first bite. A delicate, flaky scone is more appealing to me than a danish or a muffin. I love the subtlety of the sweet flavors which is preferable to being hit over the head with on overly sugary sticky bun.
