8 Failed Foods: Products You'll Never Have to Eat Again

Heinz EZ Squeeze

Blue Ketchup. Marketed to consumers as Heinz EZ Squirt, the blue, green, and purple colored ketchups has my kids begging us to go to the grocery store. Once we got it home and plopped it onto our hamburgers, they couldn't even take a bite. The over-tinted product looked like a bad batch of the red stuff.

I forget what brand it is, but there was different-colored butter too. I want to say it even became marketed at about the same time that the different-colored ketchup did. Both freaked me out a little. lol

  2. Sarah says:

I didn’t see anything wrong with the colored ketchup and I LOOOOOVED the blue pepsi! I wish it would be brought back!

  3. Jennifer Dingler says:

I loved the Orbitz drinks! The ketchup was disgusting! Tomorrow 3/17 you can get green ketchup with your meal at Burger king….. I can wrap my head around the veggie flavored Jello. Blah!

  5. Mary says:

My mom bought my sister and I the oddly colored ketchup and we wouldn’t even consider it. I think we tried it one time and I was not having it because I distinctly remember tasting the dye they used. Ketchup should be red. Now that poptarts is making so many other wild flavored poptarts they should bring back the PB&J ones. Those sound good.

  6. Geneva says:

I remember the orbitz drink as a kid. I think I used to actually like that stuff. But what kid doesn’t love overly sweet and syrupy drinks?

  7. Catherine says:

Does anybody remember Cremola Foam? It was a powder mixed with water to make a fizzy drink.

  8. Aleisha says:

The colored ketchup isn’t completely gone. Burger King is offering free french fries this weekend with green ketchup for St. Patrick’s Day. And as a kid I had a friend that stocked up on the Pepsi Blue when she heard they were discontinued. Gross.

  9. Judi Patton says:

My take on the mixed veggie Jello.

    Hmmmm, where SHALL I begin?

First of all, my children only had jello, if they were in the hospital, and/or Mama was in the hospital. So….Jello GELATIN, has no good associations, for any of us.
And to add VEGGIES to it???? GROSS!!!

    No wonder that it was an epic…..F A I L !!!!

  10. Nikki says:

I remember pepsi blue! I actually really liked it. Lol

  11. Dawn says:

OMG I loved Pepsi Blue, me and quite a few people have thought about petitioning it’s re-release.

  12. Misty says:

I actually wish they still made the Pepsi Blue I loved it, thought it was really good! I would buy it today if they still made it, maybe you all should bring it back.

  13. Tammy Teel Haddon says:

Though to be honest,I never even heard of half the products you mentioned in your report. The only one that i do remember was the “squirt”. in fact i thought it tasted better than the original ketchup. but then i don’t eat much ketchup anyway.

  14. Carl Scott says:

Does anyone else remember grape and orange flavored potato chips? Those aren’t still for sale, are they?

  15. Sarah @ TM2TS says:

Pepsi blue was AWESOME though I’ll have to say it works better as a Mt. Dew than a Pepsi. I miss Vanilla Pepsi, honestly :(

  16. Samira says:

I think orbitz would have been awesome if marketed as a decorative product and came with a little light table to put it on that was also non-toxic and if you were thirsty could drink I’ve never tried it but I have seen it and it looked cool cheaper than lava lamps those things can get expensive they also tend to get hot and can cause burns if not careful so orbitz could have been marketed as a safer version maybe they would have gotten more sales. I don’t remember many of the other ones except the blue ketchup I don’t care too much for regular ketchup let alone a colored version that tastes slightly off as well as looks like something my toddler may have thrown up just my take on it.

  17. Erin says:

I do remember those.. all of those. One thing I do miss that seemed to take a dive faster than it hit the shelves, was Pepsi clear. Does that age me?..lol

  18. KristYn says:

OMG!! I used to want those Orbit drinks so bad but my mama would never let me get them.. LOL

  19. Cat says:

    I loved the green ketchup.

  20. Pam says:

I wish they had put the release dates for these products. It seems to me that I was an adolescent when the veggie Jello was available….I’m now 58 ( how’d THAT happen?!?!?) Actually as I recall, some of the flavors were pretty good….now we use lemon or lime Jello with a little lemon juice added to make our Jello veggie salads ( Shredded cabbage, carrot, celery and sometimes bell pepper mixed into the Jello when it’s about half gelled, then allowed to finish firming up.) Don’t laugh or yak, young people! It used to be VERY popular, which no doubt , inspired the veggie Jello, that’s actually what it was for!

  21. Krispy says:

The PB&J Pop Tarts do sound good! I bet they’d sell quite well in today’s market – they would compete w/ Uncrustibles!!

  22. Julia says:

The picture of the tinted (tainted?) ketchup clearly says EZ SQUIRT not “squeeze”,

  23. tammy says:

@Erin – I remember the Pepsi Clear!! That one I actually liked.

  24. L.S. says:

The veggie jello. Wonder how long ago that was, because back in the 50′s, jello salads were popular. And often filled with veggies. Yes veggies. So, maybe this product was for back then.

  25. rba says:

    JELLO 1 2 3

  26. Dee says:

I remember ALL of those, as well as something I have seen in my area recently that I personally just cannot even fathom…Dill pickle flavored potato chips…Blech

  27. john says:

I REMEMBER IN THE 50s YOU HAD TO STIR THE OIL SITTING ON TOP OF PEANUT BUTTER INTO IT BEFORE USING. AS A CHILD AT THE TIME DID’NT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO STIR IT CLEAR THROUGH WITHOUT MAKING A MESS. THEN JIFFY AND SKIPPY CAME OUT WITH CREAMY, NO STIRRING. THEN IN THE 60s THEY CAME OUT WITH OLDFASHIONED PEANUT BUTTER, WITH THAT DAMNED OIL. NEVER ENOUGH ROOM IN THE JAR TO STIR IN THE OIL WITHOUT MAKEING A MESS. THE ONLY PERSON I KNOW WHO LIKED IT, WAS MY GRANDMOTHER, FOR MAKING PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES. BOY WERE THEY GOOD 30 YEARS AGO. BEST MEMORIES EVER.

  28. Luise Cameron says:

We live in the Midwest and had never heard of Coffee Jello until we visited relatives in Boston. They made it for a special treat for dinner. It was awful. We bought several boxes to take back home for friends just to prove there was actually such a thing. Made by Jello.

  29. Garrett says:

I don’t care if Microwaves take less time than Ovens…. When I eat a TV Dinner, I still bake it in the oven. I think they taste better that way, not to mention more even cooking results.

  30. SUE says:

WHAT ABOUT PIZZERIAS CHIPS-MADE WITH THIN PIZZA TYPE DOUGH AND FLAVORED LIKE CHEESE, PEPPERONI AND SAUSAGE?

  31. K says:

Does anyone remember the gelatin dessert called 1-2-3? It was in the late 60s or early 70s. It was a 3 layer jello dessert and each layer was a little creamier than the last. The lime was WONDERFUL!!!!

  32. Sue Lynn says:

I loved Vanilla Pepsi, and Coca-Cola Black (except the bottles were too small), and Pepsi Clear. Also liked Pepsi Blue, though I seldom drink regular Pepsi. Some things, they just take off the shelves too quickly.

  33. trudybear says:

Love dill pickle chips………wish I could get the brittish Walkers smoky bacon chips………purple ketchup freaked me out……..when was there blue pepsie????

  34. Lori O'Hearn says:

I have been wondering for a long time now, about ‘space food sticks’. They seemed like raw peanut butter cookie dough. I find myself wishing I had some to munch on now and then. Could these ever come back???

  35. emma says:

I dont remember any of these foods but that might be because im only 18 but that pepsi blue sounds quite nice. As for the tomato sauce people wouldnt actually try it because it was a strange colour. Tomato sauce is red, hp (brown) sauce is brown mustard is yellow etc. Sauces are all different colours so i dont see what difference it makes being blue or purple. Wouldnt be too keen though with the thpught of how much food colouring was actually put into these ketchups so they must have a sorta tangy flavour with em. Wouldnt mind trying it though

  36. beverly schwartz says:

i looooooved 321 jello….what about keeblers Pizzeria pizza chips…those things were phenomenal! they should bring them back…and lets not forget OK soda..haha

  37. Heidi Maynard says:

jello 123 i had as a little girl in the 70′s it came back out for a short time because i recall having it in my teen years i loved it…please bring it back!!!!!!!!

  38. Kimera says:

Yes, I remember all these products and the Pepsi Blue I wish would come back. I LOVED it’s berry flavor and used to have it with Snickers Cruncher, the BEST combination…EVER.

The different colored Ketchup, ugh…tasted more the dye than the actual product and it looked so unnatural to the eye…particularly green. x.x

  39. Katie says:

The author of this article needs to learn that “it’s” with the apostrophe is “it+is.” When using it as a possessive pronoun, he or he should be spelling it as “its;” no apostrophe.

  40. david klein says:

Thank you for a great article….I am a candy inventor….Before Heinz came out with their colored ketchup I looked into making it with my friend Mr Akimoto. This is what we found out—we could not call it ketchup because the government standard on ketchup is red. By the way my latest candy invention is David’s Signature Beyond Gourmet Jelly Beans.

  41. David says:

Oven-Baked Swanson TV Dinners should not be on this list as microwave is fast but to me never tastes nearly as good as I can even stand microwave steam vegatables and there are reports microwaving food turns then cancerous
