Super foods are not what they used to be. Spirulina, goldenseal and kombucha cocktails were de rigueur in my home growing up. My mother was always a little ahead of the curve when it comes to health trends and I certainly appreciate her effort now…but, yuck. Some of the fashionable health foods these days though are perfectly delicious. Lately, I’ve been making shakes with raw coconut butter and cacao powder. They taste like a treat, make me feel great and apparently are super good for everyone. Bottoms up!
Recipe per Person:
1 cup whole milk
1 tablespoon raw coconut butter (available at most health food stores or online, I like the brand Artisana)
2 teaspoons pure maple syrup
a few drops of vanilla
a few raw unsalted cashews (optional)
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder (available at most health food stores or online, I like the brand Navitas)
Add everything to a blender and blend on high until smooth. If you prefer a vanilla version omit the cacao powder.
