Airplane Food, Something to Look Forward to?

I remember back in the day (was it really THAT long ago) when airlines served free food, like on a 3 hours flight. Now it’s all pay for your nasty snack pack of a slim jim and tub of processed cheese to go with your butter crackers. Some airlines still serve the free grub and if you are flying international, you’ve hit the airline food jackpot. I was fortunate enough to recently go visit my sister in Amsterdam (why did you have to move so far away?) and had the excitement of chowing down on the mini cubicles of food. I fell asleep and woke up after the meal service was finished and was stuck with pasta, thank goodness (I never trust a protein at 35,000 feet). I was famished and ate it and enjoyed it like I was at Mozza in LA. What was going on? I devoured the rubbery pasta looking around to make sure no one was watching. Then, upon my return, I read this quote and it explained everything. “Food that, if sampled from a kitchen, would be banal or even offensive, but acquires a new taste and interest in presence of the clouds.”. Ok, now I get it. For those of you flying far and need to see the potential disaster/somehow-this-is-delicous-meal, check out the airplane food options after the jump…

Dare I ask what that brown log is? Maybe it's an empty toilet paper roll or could it be sausage?

The salad looks fine, the rice good, not sure what's next to it, but what stands out is the pretty little dessert. Let's hope it tastes as good as it looks.

Some Type of Veggie Roll (I hope) with Salmon, other stuff and a Twix
All of this should be illegal and the airline banned, but then they had to go and include a twix. Redeemed.
