Decadent Baked French Toast Recipe
4 croissants torn into bite size pieces
2/3 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup milk (any)
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
3 tablespoon white sugar
2-3 apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
¾ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon white sugar
¼ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
¼ cup butter
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup milk (any)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Place torn croissants in a greased 9×9 baking dish. In a separate bowl combine egg, cream, milk, sugar and vanilla. I use a stick blender to really whisk it up, but just for about 10 seconds so the cream doesn’t turn to whipping cream. Pour mixture over the croissants. Mix the apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar in a bowl and place on top of the croissants, refrigerate for 1 hour to overnight. When you are ready to bake the French toast, preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake the French toast for 35 to 45 minutes. If a fork comes out clean, it’s done. Meanwhile for the sauce combine the sugar, flour, and butter over medium heat and stir until melted. Slowly stir in the brown sugar, milk and vanilla and stir until thick. When the French toast is done pour the sauce over the top and serve. Serves 6.
