Baked Not Fried: Heart Shaped Doughnuts for Valentine's

 

 

I happen to love Valentine’s Day. Any excuse for me to gussy up everything in pink and red and hearts and xo all over I’m for it. I was in Tar-jay for one of my many weekly trips and I saw this adorable heart shaped doughnut pan. I knew I had to pick it up. I’ve been wanting to try baked doughnuts for a while now and this was my perfect opportunity. I adapted the recipe from the back of the pan and they turned out light, and amazing and in just about 15 minutes we were eating fresh BAKED doughnuts.

 

Baked Doughnuts (recipe adapted from the Nordic Ware pan recipe)
What you’ll need:
2 cups cake flour
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
2 eggs
2 tablespoons unsalted butter – melted
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

What to do:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray heart shaped doughnut pan with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.

2. Into a medium bowl add: flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Stir in: milk, eggs, butter and vanilla. Mix until just combined.

3. Fill each well 2/3 full. Bake for approximately 10-12 OR until the top of the doughnuts spring back when lightly touched.

4. Cool 5 minutes in pan. Invert onto cooling rack and allow to cool completely.

Decorate with glaze and sprinkles if desired.
