Best-Ever Healthy Snack: Non-Dairy "Cheesy" Popcorn with Nutritional Yeast

I admit that anything with the words “nutritional yeast” sounds like a questionable favorite snack but, I’m telling you (me, the woman who made this Double Chocolate Cake and these Choco-Marshmallow Peanut Butter Cupcakes): freshly popped pop corn sprinkled with nutritional yeast is addictive.

Don’t believe me? What if I tell you that nutritional yeast has a creamy, almost cheesy flavor? So, we’re talking a healthy, vegan popcorn reminiscent of popcorn sprinkled with grated cheese (a nutty cheese, like parmesan). You with me NOW?

Similar to brewer’s yeast, nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast in the form of flakes that can be used as an ingredient or condiment. Found in health food stores, it is a complete protein and good source of vitamins, particularly B-complex.

I was recently served popcorn with nutritional yeast at a play date, and it was a revelation! I loved it. The kids loved it. It was gobbled up in a snap. It’s super easy to make:

1. Pop popcorn. (Really, like Angie says in her post, doing it yourself is easy and SO much healthier!)
2. Sprinkle with nutritional yeast; use as much as tastes good to you.
