Better Than Starbucks: Perfect Hot Spiced Chai Latte at HomeKelsey Banfield
I love a good hot chai tea latte to get me going on cooler mornings. It is also a favorite when I need a quick pick me up in the afternoon. Sure, I could pop over to Starbucks each time I wanted one but it would costs a fortune and add a lot of calories to my diet. Instead, I make it at home. It is so easy to do you wouldn’t believe it. For this picture I finished it off with some whipped cream and ground nutmeg for a special effect, but I usually skip the whipped cream most days. Here is how you can recreate a delicious spiced chai latte at home!
Hot Spiced Chai Latte
1 chai tea bag (my favorite brand is Stash)
1 tablespoon vanilla simple syrup*
1/4 cup 2% milk
Whipped Cream & Ground Nutmeg for garnish if desired
1. Steep the tea in hot water for about five minutes, then remove and discard. Immediately stir in the simple syrup and stir until dissolved.
2. In a the microwave or a small saucepan warm the milk until just a little steamy. Pour it in to the tea and stir. Drink as is, or add whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground nutmeg for garnish.
*If you don’t have simple syrup honey can be substituted
