Breakfast on a StickBrooke McLay
I have counted for ten days straight: how many of my weekdays look right? On how many Monday’s do I rise before dawn, take a long walk, greet my children from bed, gently wiping the sand from their eyes, feeding them well-balanced breakfasts, while reading to them from classic literature?
In ten days, I’d expect to be able to pull together one decent, morning routine. But every day, no matter how good my intentions, turns into a hairy rush. Which is why, I’ve decided to stop trying to beat them, and start joining them. Meet these hectic mornings fully-suited up with kickin’ mommy power. We may be in rush. We may be rollin’ out the door. But, by golly, my children are going to know their mommy loves them enough to make breakfast fun, funny, and fabulous.
This plan of mine involves turning Breakfasts-on-the-Go from lame, mealy bars to colorful festivals of celebration. And what better way to do that than creating a “Breakfast-on-a-Stick” made with mini frozen waffles, fresh strawberries, and lots of cool whip? I can’t think of any darn thing more adorable that that!
If you’re a parent like me–stressed, frantic, but madly in love with the little people in your house–here’s my easy-as-pie recipe for these delightful little breakfast skewers.
Because, you know…mornings don’t have to be perfect. They just have to be full of lots of love.
