But until I was an adult, I never liked it. For many children, it can have a bitter after taste, especially when you get stuck with a bad batch. For me, the key to loving grapefruit, was to add a little sugar until finally, I enjoyed the taste enough, that I no longer needed the sugar.
Broiling grapefruit is a trick I learned from Martha Stewart years ago. It’s fast, simple, sweet, and warm—three great pluses in this cold weather.
grapefruits, halved and sliced along the membranes, just as you would prepare it for eating cold
light brown sugar, about 1 tablespoon for each half
Preheat the broiler to the low setting. Arrange grapefruit halves on a broiler safe baking sheet. Broil for 1-5* minutes, until the fruit is warm and the sugar has dissolved or starts to bubble.
*Each broiler is so different, please keep an eye on these until you know how long it will take your oven to cook these.
