Candy Cane White Chocolate Pretzels

It’s that time of year when we make delicious homemade goodies for our friends and loved ones. Our family has taken to sampling every kind of treat we can get our hands on and the one we keep coming back to is the candy cane white chocolate pretzel. These little salty-sweet-minty treats are such a hit we decided to skip our traditional cookie baking and try our hand at some candy cane crushing, white chocolate dipping pretzels. Turns out they are so easy and addicting and so much fun to make that these are our new family tradition. Get your new tradition after the jump…

1 bag pretzel thins

1 bag white chocolate chips

4 candy canes

wax paper

dish towel

Unwrap the candy canes and place in a sealed bag. Let your kid crush them with a mallet, watch close to avoid smashed fingers! Pour the crushed candy canes into a shallow bowl, pour the pretzel thins into a bowl, place a sheet of wax paper on the counter with the dish towel at one end and the candy canes and pretzels next to them. Use a double boiler or a heat proof bowl placed over a pot of water, making sure the bowl does not touch the water. Pour the white chocolate chips into the bowl and set aside. Bring the water in the pot to a simmer. Place the bowl with the chips over the simmering pot of water. Stir frequently and when the chocolate chips are half melted place the bowl onto a towel on the counter and continue to stir until fully melted. Dip a pretzel into the melted while chocolate, then into the crushed candy canes and place on the wax paper to dry. After 30 minutes, package in your favorite holiday packaging and bring to your loved ones.
