Chill Out! With Watermelon Aqua Fresca

Last year I found this great recipe for the Latin American beverage agua fresca in the Health section of the New York Times and I’ve been looking forward to watermelon season ever since so I could start making it again. Any melon will do for this fruit water—I’ve even had delicious hibiscus and pineapple agua fresca—but I think watermelon is the most perfect ingredient, naturally hydrating and refreshing to look at and drink. I make pitchers of the stuff in just a few minutes and keep it chilling in the fridge…


My kids also love anything watermelon related…if their looking dehydrated or you just want to serve them something that seems highfalutin’ during adult cocktail hour, then this is your drink

Recipe for Watermelon Agua Fresca (adapted from the NY Times)
-Add 4 cups of chopped watermelon to a blender.
-Add 1 tablespoon sugar; 2 tablespoons of fresh squeezed lime juice; and 1 1/2 cups cold water.
-Blend on high until smooth.
-Pour through a medium strainer into a bowl then pour into a pitcher.
-Stir in an additional 1 1/2 cups of cold water.
-Chill in fridge for at least an hour.
-Serve on ice with a straw and melon wedge garnish.
-Enjoy!
