Christmas Morning Breakfast: Eggnog Challah French Toast

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!  As I mentioned the other day, one of the recipes that I was inspired by while eating out on my Birthday was Gingerbread Pancakes.  Another recipe being served was ‘Christmas Morning Eggnog French Toast’. In fact, the waitress walked by with this plate of french toast with red and green sprinkles on it so I followed her to the table. Yes, I did. When I see pretty food, I need to find out more no matter who I embarrass. Luckily, the woman who ordered the food was a lovely woman from Quebec that did not mind me staring at and drooling over her food and was happy to chat with me.

Then I tried to get the exact recipe from the cook, but was given the evil eye and knew I better be on my way. Therefore,  I developed my version of the Christmas Morning Eggnog French Toast…

Eggnog Bread
8 slices of french or challah bread
1 egg, beaten
2 cups eggnog
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Confectioner’s Sugar and colored sugar (optional)

1. Spray a pan with olive oil spray and set on the stove at medium heat.

2. In a large bowl, beat the egg and then add in the eggnog, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and whisk together.

3. Slice the bread into 1 inch thick slices and place into the eggnog mixture. Flip the bread over and cover with the mixture, place into the pan and listen to the lovely sizzle.

4. Flip the bread once it has browned. Top with a light dusting with confectioners sugar, red and greene sprinkles and watch the sparkle in their eyes.
