I’ve seen a lot of edible eyeballs in my life, but today came across by far the creepiest – and yet most delectable – eyeball that looks disgusting as well as delicious! If you’re planning a Halloween dinner party, this panna cotta eyeball by Kitchen Table Scraps is the best-done dessert I’ve seen in a long time. That I actually want to eat.
Panna cotta – an Italian cream-based gelled dessert (essentially cream Jell-O) is delicious, elegant and easy to make – Renee made hers coconut, and brilliantly made the iris from a slice of fresh kiwi, providing authenticity by way of its naturally striped flesh. The pupil is made of plumped raisins, and the blood – raspberry coulis. While each element is brilliantly authentic-looking, flavour-wise it works, too. Her brilliant finishing touch is the the gelatin sheet lens that sits on top of the kiwi iris, which doesn’t add to the flavour but makes it that much more convincing. If you have a little hatchet or surgical knife to place beside it, all the better.
