I have a really good friend who is probably into food more than I am. She’s a great cook and gardener extraordinaire. For Christmas, she gave me a cookbook called The Weekend Baker by Abigail Johnson Dodge. At first, when I leafed through it, I was a little sad to see there weren’t many color pictures. But then I reasoned, If there aren’t many pictures, and my friend loves the book, then that’s a good sign that the recipes speak for themselves.
And they do.
One recipe that caught my eye is her Emergency Blender Cupcakes with Fudgy Frosting. Then there’s her Bursting with Raspberries Bread Pudding. The idea of the cookbook is to make something special and delicious without a lot of effort—something you could whip up on a weekend and not outdo yourself.
One of our family’s New Year’s resolutions is to keep things as stress-free as possible, and this cookbook is helping us do just that. I would recommend it to anyone who loves to bake, or anyone who wants to bake, but doesn’t have a lot of time.
