Decadent Dark Chocolate: Miracle Health Food?

Like chocolate? Then we’ve got some good news–recent studies have shown that consuming chocolate can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke by one-third. And, the more chocolate consumed, the better. We’re thrilled about the news, and are glad to share some of our favorite chocolate recipes below the jump.

A recent study shows that those who consume chocolate regularly have a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke. This comes on top of a study showing that heart attack sufferers who ate chocolate regularly had markedly better recovery rates. What’s behind the health boost? Chocolate contains flavonoid antioxidants that seem to have beneficial effects for the cardiovascular system.

Before you go on a chocolate bender, there are a few things to keep in mind. Dark chocolate is superior to milk chocolate. And of course large amounts of sugar or fattening foods are not good for you, and have a strong correlation with diabetes.

Though more testing is definitely needed, one thing’s for sure–recent science supports evidence that frequent indulgence in dark chocolate might just be good for you! So go ahead and enjoy (in moderation, of course).
