Elvis’ birthday is fast approaching. Elvis Presley would be 76 on January 8 (or will be if you’re operating under the assumption that he never died). The King of Rock and Roll, who died August 16 of 1977, will be commemorated with a Graceland birthday party fit for, well, fit for a king. Check out the full schedule of Elvis’ birthday events at Graceland that started January 6th and go through to Sunday, January 9th.
Can’t make it? Regardless of which camp you’re in, alive or dead, it would be appropriate to celebrate the rock legend with some of his favorite foods, starting with fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches
4 slices white or wheat sandwich bread
4 tablespoons peanut butter
1 banana, sliced
4 tablespoons of butter
Spread peanut butter evenly between two slices of bread. Place sliced bananas over the top. Top each slice with the other two slices, making two sandwiches. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sandwiches and brown on both sides, approximately 2 minutes each side. Remove from pan. Allow to cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar, for good measure, and enjoy.
Now, if this isn’t your idea of Elvis’ birthday celebration, you can always make a peanut butter and banana birthday cake, or you could head out to some of your favorite New York City eateries to celebrate as well. The choice is yours.
