I’m a huge fan of apple pie at this time of year – when not only are apples at their peak, but far more varieties are available in grocery stores and at farmers markets. As the days grow cooler and shorter, there’s no better way to warm the house than with a baking pie. I recently came across this stunning apple pie at Family Feedbag, a Canadian food blog based in Victoria, BC; can you think of a more beautiful way to top an apple pie?
This one shot to the top of my must-make list.
Amy, the mom and baker behind the relatively new (not even a year old!) Family Feedbag, saved scraps of homemade pastry (made with a splash of cider vinegar to keep tough strands of gluten from forming) and coloured them with food colouring to make the fall leaves. Adorable, no? (She also made a beautiful springtime pie, a St. Paddy’s day pie and a stunning blackberry pie, if you have any plump beauties left.)
