Kitchen Hack: Crepes in 30 Seconds

crepes photoWe here at the Family Kitchen love crepes. And with good reason. They are easy to make and can be served at breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack time. But, unless you have a hot crepe griddle and batter ready for whenever you have a craving, it’s hard to imagine whipping them up on a whim (or opting for them over cereal or sliced bread).


Not anymore! I’ve got a solution that’ll will have crepes on your plate in 30 seconds flat.

FREEZE them!

1. Make a big batch this weekend.
2. Let the crepes cool.
3. Whip out a big freezer safe bag and layer the crepes in a big stack—they’re thin enough to separate without breaking too much even when frozen—or between parchment paper (my preference).

When you want a crepe, whether for breakfast or while packing lunches, microwave each crepe on high for 25-30 seconds or put in an oven preheated to 350 degrees for about 20 seconds. Voila.

Here’s an easy crepe recipe. I like rolling them with cream cheese, ham and chives for the Hungry Boy’s lunchbox. Or slathering them with greek yogurt topped with wheat germ, flax meal, bananas and honey for breakfast. Here are other ideas for serving crepes for breakfast, lunch AND dinner. And, of course, no mention of crepes is complete without Nutella Crepes, perhaps the best simple dessert ever.

    The last item I remember using was strawberries and chocolate dipped strawberries. boy, was that good. Try it sometime when you have the time.

    I pulled two out of the freezer just the other night for strawberry and nutella crepe dessert. Seriously. The best dessert ever in 1 minute flat. Crazzzy!
