I’m a huge farmer’s market fan. That’s why I was thrilled to check out The Daily Meal’s slide show on the World’s Coolest Farmers Markets. My main market draw is produce, but sometimes specialty goodies, treats and people-watching can be just as appealing as the farm produce itself. And as you’ll see from this list, sometimes the main attraction of a market has nothing to do with produce – and everything to do with community and culture. My faves from The Daily Meal’s list! And who I’d add..

It’s true, you can tell a lot about a town from the markets they keep. The people, culture, food, attitude and economy. My Faves from The Daily Meal’s slide show..
Hawaii. Did you know that Oahu hosts one of the “greenest” farmers markets in the world? Yup, the Hale’iwa Farmers’ Market, Oahu, Hawaii boasts only around 50 vendors, but is proud of its zero-waste environment and solar-powered tents. Not to mention the amazing Hawaiian produce, goodies, treats and stunning mountain-scape views. I think this is a must-see for any market lover like myself.
British Columbia. This Asian-influenced night market sounds like tons of fun and a feast for the senses! Summer Night Market in Richmond, British Columbia isn’t your typical daytime, produce market. It showcases more that veggies and fruit – it highlights the community culture and life. Spend my Saturday night at a farmers market? Yes please! And then maybe again Sunday morning. A dream scenario for a market fan like me.
London. I can only imagine what it must be like to stroll London’s famous Maltby Street Market, soy latte in hand, foggy weather, cool early morning streets, sun rising. From perfect country-esque strawberries to local artisanal goodies of all sorts – this market sounds like a must-see when in London.
Italy. Capo Market in Palermo, Italy sounds like a foodie dream come true. Mixing and mingling with chefs and locals along the Italian streets – it probably doesn’t get any better than this!
LA. Though I’ve never visited Yamashiro Market in Los Angeles – even though I lived in LA for three years – it sound like a hideaway Asian market nestled up in the Hollywood Hills.
