Foolproof, One-Step Cranberry Sauce


apple-cranberry-chutney-300x2181My mom is a decent cook, but she’s never the one who brings the to-die-for dish to a dinner party. Except for her cranberry sauce, which is the hit at every Thanksgiving dinner, year after year.

Mom mom’s cooking style is kinda utilitarian. She’s wants it to taste good, of course, but has no time for fuss, and she’s much more interested in nutrition than nuanced flavor. (She’s one of those people who could eat a steamed piece of salmon night after night.) But cranberry sauce inspires her. And her cranberry sauce, though super simple, foolproof even, is inspiring. Simply delicious and an especially easy and impressive dish for those of you who don’t cook all the time to bring to your family meal.

Foolproof, One-Step Cranberry Sauce

8-oz fresh cranberries
1/4 cup fresh squeezed organic orange juice
1/4 cup apple cider
1/2 c sugar
zest of 1 orange
1 Tbsp cider vinegar
1 apple, peeled and diced
1 cinnamon stick
3 whole cloves

1. Put all of the ingredients into a medium saucepan set over medium high heat. Bring to a boil and, when cranberries begin to pop, reduce heat to medium. Cook for about 10-12 min or until sauce reaches desired consistency.
