Fuel Up: The Best Foods to Eat Before & After a Workout

The Best Foods to Eat Before and After a Workout
Over on espnW, former Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders has been keeping us updated on her progress as she trains for Disney’s Princess Half Marathon. In today’s post, she offers some simple tips on everyday nutrition for athletes. In that spirit, we thought we’d take a closer look at the best foods to eat before and after a workout.

Whether you’re training for a marathon, playing in a regular pick-up game, or just hitting the gym to keep in shape, working out regularly means your nutritional needs will be different from someone who is sedentary, and that’s just as true for your family. Before exercise, you want to make sure you’re not asking too much of a body that’s not properly fueled and after a workout you’ll want to take care to replenish what you’ve lost. But just because you’re burning lots of calories, you don’t have a license to eat junk.

Here are ten energy-packed, family-friendly recipes to eat before exerting yourself and ten more to eat after you work out.
