Football season officially starts in our home this weekend. Our beloved Florida Gators are playing their first game Saturday and we’re going to be in our gear, on the couch, and cheering for our favorite team. Of course there will be food involved and I’ve already asked my husband what he wants on the “menu”.
While he’s thinking about it, I thought I’d share these awesome little open faced sandwiches we have made many times for game day snacking. These sandwiches are so great to feed a group and require very little prep.
To save time, cook up your bacon ahead of time. These little sammies go perfectly alongside your favorite fall beer such as my personal favorite Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale.
What college football team will you be cheering for this weekend?
loaf crusty whole grain bread from the bakery, sliced medium-thin
good sliced cheese – I used Boars Head Vermont yellow cheddar
cooked bacon slices
Granny Smith apple, sliced thin
On slice of bread, layer bacon and cheese and place under broiler till cheese melts and browns up a bit. Top with thin slices of apple. Cut into appropriate size for serving and enjoy!!
