This year Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain is celebrating 60 years on the throne with a Diamond Jubilee. The celebration has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, and the special events have been chronicled and announced on the official website of the Diamond Jubilee. As noted on the website, the weekend of June 2nd – 5th will be marked with celebrations throughout the kingdom and known as the “central weekend” of the celebration.

I lived in Scotland for a time during college — one of the best experiences of my life — and thus I have a particular affinity for Great Britain. My family has even traced our ancestry back to Scotland and England. To mark the Diamond Jubilee here on Babble, I decided to compile a list of some of the Queen’s favorite foods. These are all traditional British dishes and are a great way to celebrate Her Majesty’s service to her country for 60 years and counting! Check them out, after the jump!

Tea Cakes in the Afternoon

Per British tradition, the Queen takes tea in the afternoon and prefers bites like sweet cakes, decrusted jam sandwiches, and biscuits. It it is noted by her former chef that she enjoys sweets in the afternoon but takes care not to overindulge. This light and flavorful cake is just the dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth at teatime — without spoiling dinner.
