Goodbye Regis: Philbin To Turn in His Coffee Cup After 28 Delicious Years

After 28 years of entertaining a massive audience of television viewer, 79-year-old Regis Philbin announced his retirement today.

“This will be my last year on this show,” the 79-year-old host said Tuesday morning on “Live! with Regis and Kelly.” “It’s been a long time, it’s been 28 years since I’ve been here. And it was the biggest thrill of my life to come back to New York, where I grew up as a kid watching TV in the early days, you know, never even dreaming that I would one day have the ability, or whatever it takes, to get in front of the camera and talk to it….There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people,” he joked during today’s Live! With Regis and Kelly broadcast. (Check out a video of his annoucement here.)

Regis’ Live! morning show has become a staple for many American’s.  The show features a hearty dose of laughter and good cheer while Philbin and Ripa sip on coffee and converse about everything from politics to entertainment.

Rather than giving in to that tinge of sadness as we say goodbye to Regis, why not celebrate his retirement by snatching up a Live! With Regis and Kelly mug from eBay, and trying your hand at a few of the best recipes cooked up for the show.

The Live! With Regis and Kelly website offers a searchable recipe database, with numerous incredible recipes from it’s many episodes.  With everything from decadant desserts (try this Rocky Road Bread Pudding) to healthy, fresh dinners (Jaime Oliver’s Roasted Salt Chicken and Potatoes looks incredible) the show has brought together a vast variety of recipes from some of the best chefs.

Such is often the case with Regis.  He set a standard of excellence, mixed with friendly charm and his presence on morning TV will most definitely be missed.

Regis, we raise our coffee mugs to you!
