Grated Onion: The Secret To Intense Onion Flavor

Have you ever grated an onion? A grater pulverizes the onion turning it into an applesauce like consistency while increasing the potency. Make sure to stand back or wear goggles because the gasses emitted are sure to bring a tear to your eyes, but it’s all worth it. My favorite use for grated onion is in chicken meatballs or chicken burgers (we steer clear of beef). Other great recipes to use grated onion are spaghetti sauce, guacamole, baked beans, cole slaw, latkes, sauces, and dressings and anything else you want to bring a more intense onion flavor into without having chunks of onion. Just make sure to use a little less. For instance, if a recipe calls for 1/2 cup of onion, use 1/3 cup grated onion and juices. What are you waiting for? Go get your box grater and an onion and make something delicious.
