Grilled Chocolate: Get Your Chocolate Fix Quick

By Brooke McLay |

Sometimes you crave chocolate.  If you’re like me, you crave chocolate all the time.  If you’re also like me, nibbling on a chalky candy bar doesn’t always satisfy the sort of chocolate cravings I get.  No, I’m a foodie.  So, when I want to satisfy my chocolate cravings, I want to do it in a way that rises snacktime to the sublime.  This take on the classic comfort food–grilled cheese–is reminiscent of Pain au Chocolat, a French chocolate-filled croissant.  Of course, seeing as how finding a batch of flaky croissants is nearly impossible in Colorado, I turned to a slightly more Americanized version of the recipe, Grilled Chocolate.  Chocolate grilled and melted between two pieces of buttered bread, or even better–between two pieces of buttered poundcake.

This incredible recipe arrives from King Arthur Flour.  Visit their website to find the recipe for a mouthwatering pound cake, the perfect addition to this grilled chocolate sandwich.

Grilled Chocolate
2 slices white bread or pound cake
3 (6.8 oz.) chocolate bars
1 tablespoon butter
whipping cream or ice cream
Heat a frying pan or griddle to medium heat. Butter one side of each piece of bread or pound cake. Space three chocolate rectangles along the unbuttered side. Top with the remaining bread or cake, buttered-side up. Transfer to a hot griddle and cook till the cake is golden and the chocolate melted, about 2 minutes per side. Hint: Cook one sandwich first, to test the temperature/timing.

Serve as is or with a scoop of whipping cream or ice cream.

the recipe on the kaf site reads differently. it actually yields 16 servings, which makes sense when you use a 8 in sq pound cake.

To respond to the “Jeapordy” reference {D’OH}…Laziness, Over-Eating and Lack of Imagination is the reason that America has a problem w/ Obesity. Something like this can be enjoyed on Special Occasions or Dessert once or twice a month. The Parents that read “Babble” or “The Family Kitchen” are obviously Parents who Care about their Children’s Diet & wouldn’t do ANYTHING to cause Harm to them. The Parents who DON’T care about what their Children eat & think that turning a steering Wheel into a Drive-Thru 10-12 times a Week for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, is “taking the time” to get dinner. If they won’t take the time to make rood for their Kids, WHY would they Read ANYTHING close to doing so. I understand that not EVERYONE has the time, nor patience to make some LONG, 5 hour recipe everyday. (I HATE those!) But there are MANY..MANY “Quick & Easy” Healthy Recipes. I had SPinal Cord Surgery 5 yrs ago & I can’t stand or too long. I also have Celiac Disease, along w/ my youngest Son, so ANYTHING that is easy to make, but Healthy & YUMMY, wins in my House!!
