Add veggies to chili, spaghetti sauce and the like. The seasonings make adding ground zuchinni, carrots, mushrooms (they may eat these just sliced into the sauce) eggplant, broccoli, even brussels sprouts.

Type[nut bread, recipe], click [Enter]. Choose a recipe and add 1C fresh or frozen vegies…fruits work too, but you may want to reduce the ammount of sugar found in the recipe.

  4. Lady Z says:

Add diced carrots to ground turkey (or beef) when browning on the stove top for many recipes. You can actually halve the amount of turkey or beef the recipe calls for, and the kids haven’t a clue how much healthier you’ve just made the meal!

I used to put pureed spinach in my spaghetti sauce, a can of not-drained spinach whizzed in the blender. An extra one of those little cans of tomato paste covered it up completely. The kids never guessed! Finally, I confessed to my son when he asked me to teach him how to make my home-made spaghetti sauce, the summer before he left for college. ;-)

I puree left over veggies of all kinds into my spagetti sauce. Then can use it in spagetti, lasagna, or other recipes that call for a red sauce. They never even taste it.

I like the IDEA of this, but quite a few of these I couldn’t serve to my kids as “healthy” treats because of the amount of sugar or fat. I may try some less sugary versions of these, especially those that use squash!
