Homemade Gifts from the Kitchen: Chocolate Chip Brownie Mix in a Jar

By Kelsey Banfield |

Brownie Mix in a JarI’ve always thought that homemade gifts are the best kind of gifts to give and receive. It is such a nice sentiment to give someone a treat that you have crafted yourself, it is a heartfelt way to show you care. One of my favorite homemade gifts to give busy families is Chocolate Chip Brownie Mix in a Jar. It is fun to make at home with my daughter, looks beautiful when packaged, and is a truly useful gift for the recipient. One year I was given cookie mix in a jar, much like the mix Shaina told us about, and I was so glad to reach for it on a day when I didn’t have time to bake from scratch. To package a jarred good I always choose a clean, nicely shaped jar and wrap the lid in ribbon or a pretty piece of fabric and stick on a cute label. It always looks festive and sweet, the perfect edible gift for friends and family. Here is how you can make your very own Chocolate Chip Brownie Mix at home:

Brownie Mix in a Jar

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

2/3 cups cocoa powder

2 cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon Kosher salt

1 cup chocolate chips (a mix of white and dark chocolate chips always looks great!)

1. Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl, except the chocolate chips. Pour the dry ingredients into a jar and layer with the chocolate chips.

2. Directions for the jar should read: Preheat oven to 350ºF and grease a 13×9 baking pan. Add 1 1/2 sticks butter and 2 eggs to the brownie mix. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until brownies are completely set. Allow to cool and serve.

Fabulous Idea! Add Sutton Gourmet Paper’s designer cupcake liners that DO NOT fade – even with BROWNIES baked in them! I use them for my brownies – less mess!

  2. IndigoSabrian says:

I wonder how large a jar this requires?
