Homemade Magic ShellBrooke McLay
One of my favorite things to tote to parties is ice cream for dessert. It’s quick, cheap, and easy and everyone is always delighted to finish just about any meal with ice cream. Of course, when the party host has been preparing her menu all day and I trot along with a haphazard carton of ice cream, I always feel a littel under-impressive. So, lately, we’ve been dressing up our bring-ice-cream-for-dessert nights with a bottle of homemade magic shell.
A drizzle of Chocolate Magic Shell over a bit of ice cream is delightsome! After being poured over ice cream, it hardens into a thin, sweet layer, reminiscent of old school ice cream shoppes of yesteryear.
Making your own magic shell isn’t as tricky as you might think! Here’s the simple 3-ingredient recipe to whip up a batch of your own!
Homemade Magic Shell
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup coconut oil
pinch of salt
Combine the ingredients in a pyrex or glass bowl and melt in the microwave till almost, but not completely liquid. Whisk together until completely soft and melted.
Pour melted mixture into an old, cleaned pancake syrup bottle or mason jar. It will be liquid at room temperature in the warm summer months, and will be hard during the winter. To reheat the Magic Shell to just pop it in the microwave for about 40 seconds, then drizzle on your favorite ice cream!
