Though designer vodka martinis have eclipsed those made with gin in recent years, there is something to be said for the simplicity of two ingredients and two steps. Garnish with a couple of olives or a twist of lemon, sip, and enjoy the pure flavor many others have enjoyed before you.
2 1/2 ounces gin
1/2 ounce dry vermouth
1. Fill a cocktail shaker half way with ice cubes. Add gin and vermouth and shake vigorously.
2. Strain into a martini glass and serve with an olive or a twist of lemon.
(Note: If you desire a drier martini, simply swirl a splash of vermouth in the martini glass and then discard. Still shake the gin in the ice, though.)
