How to Make Homemade Nutella Chocolate Chips for BakingKelsey Banfield
I’ll be the first to admit that I usually buy chocolate chips, but when I found this DIY recipe for chocolate chips by Whole New Mom I simply had to give it a try. How cool is it to make your own chocolate chips?! I decided to give mine a twist by using a dollop of nutella for that special hazelnut chocolate flavor. The chips definitely have undertones of coconut too because of the coconut oil, but I love coconut so it was not a problem. The chips came together in a snap and I celebrated by adding them to a batch of brownies. As expected, they melted into the batter, giving the brownies warm pockets of melted chocolate in each bite. I will still buy chocolate chips at the grocery store, but this homemade method is staying in my recipe file too
Homemade Nutella Chocolate Chips
adapted from Whole New Mom
1 cup coconut oil
1 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup nutella
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1. Melt the coconut oil over low heat until just melted. Stir in the cocoa powder, nutella and vanilla extract. Pour the mixture into a very lightly oil 8×8 pan and freeze it for at least four hours. Then cut it into pieces and make into chips.
2. Store the chips in a baggy in the fridge or freezer and remove just before baking.
