Italian Christmas Eve Tradition: Feast Of The Seven Fishes

If you asked me what my favorite day of the year was, it would have to be Christmas Eve. Growing up in a big Italian family, Christmas Eve was (and still is) a big deal in my home. Yes, the anticipation of the guy coming down the chimney was definitely in the air…but so were smells of garlic, lemon, tomatoes, and white wine along with fresh seafood simmering away in my nonni’s kitchen. Every Christmas Eve, our family sat down at our big dining table all gussied up in its red and white tablecloth and enjoyed a huge seafood feast. Dish after dish of fish, shrimp, scallops, calamari and mussels were set up and down the table, the sweet smells coming together were intoxicating.

Does your family share in the Feast of the Seven Fishes? If so, what’s on your menu?

Take a look at some of these delectable fish and seafood recipes like Paula’s Baked Scallops (pictured above) that would be a delicious addition your Christmas Eve feast this year.
