It’s SPRING and that means it’s almost time for The National Cherry Blossom Festival. It is an annual celebration held along the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C.. It commemorates the March 27, 1912, gift of 3,000 Japanese cherry trees from the Mayor of Tokyo to strengthen the growing friendship between the United States and Japan. The 2011 Cherry Blossom Festival runs from March 26-April 10th holding festivities that are primarily free and open to the public. You can visit the site for information on specific festivities and ways to help donate to the relief efforts in Japan.
