Every January I try to do my body a favor and step down from sugar. It seems that in December my sugar intake doubles or triples with all the terrific Christmas sweets in my kitchen. I don’t mind indulging, but it is important to right the ship after a few weeks of fun. Of course, just because I want to eat healthier, doesn’t mean I want to give up sweets altogether. Instead I focus on treats that are naturally sweetened with just a touch of honey or agave, or maybe just a great new way to eat fruit because it satisfies any sweets craving. It is not about torturing myself, it is just about eating smart. Keeping desserts light and easy is a great way to start off the New Year.
