Make Your Own Raised Bed Garden

My sister asked a week ago if we had plans for building her own raised bed garden. We have three in our backyard that my husband put together for me, and she’s looking to grow a few things in her yard this year. Tomatoes, I’m guessing, are probably one of the things she wishes she had on hand. But then, I’m kind of preferential to garden tomatoes, so perhaps that’s just me.

The answer, however, was that we did not have anywhere to direct her to give her an easy idea of how to make a raised bed garden. There are so many different ways to do it, too, from straightforward to fancy, and of course, your individual yard has to be taken into account. I was excited to find out, though, that there are free customizable plans available online where I could direct her question.

Just in time for the summer planting season, the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association/Real Outdoor Living has unveiled a deluxe raised garden bed DIY project: multi-tiered with room for veggies, flowers and even a water feature, the garden bed is constructed of real pressure-treated wood because wood is the only natural choice for a natural garden.

The plans are step-by-step and easy to follow, with photos along the way. It’s a great resource for those looking to create their own salad in the backyard or even to add on to an existing garden.
