This time of year is all about biding my time until the growing season gets underway. Since the outlook at the farmer’s market is rather bleak, I spend my time these days strolling through the produce aisle looking for something interesting. That’s where I found kumquats–sure, I’ve seen them before, heard them mentioned in recipes, but they were never on my radar–until now.
Kumquats, are often thought to be a citrus fruit, or not, but the consensus on flavor is that they’re tiny bites that are both sweet and sour. I’ve come to love them for their bite and intense citrus flavor. Kumquats played a starring role in the watercress and avocado salad I threw together for lunch the other day. The piquant and creamy dressing compliments healthy, crisp watercress and creamy avocado. Head over to Brooklyn Supper for the recipe!
