National Margarita Day 2011: How to Make Your Own at HomeElizabeth Stark
I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s already National Margarita Day 2011. It seems like it was just National Margarita Day 2010. Every year we think “This is going to be the year when I’m ready for National Margarita Day,” but alas, time makes fools of us all. As do margaritas. I remember this one time when I was 23 we were drinking margaritas, and– actually these stories are never as good if you weren’t there. Luckily if you didn’t stock up for National Margarita Day already, it’s not hard to get yourself set up properly for a top-notch margarita.
We have a friend whose parents went on vacation in Caribbean once and when the returned her mother said “They had the most wonderful drink there. It was just tequila, triple sec, and lime juice.”
“You mean a margarita, Mom?” asked our friend. And that’s the thing, they’re so delicious that you expect them to be something hard to make, but there are just three ingredients. There are a lot of ratios, but I find this simple one works well for making them at home:
One part triple sec
Two parts lime juice
Three parts tequila
Serve over ice in a salt-rimmed glass.
The difference between a good margarita and a bad one is in the quality of tequila you use. Spring for a nice one.
