With all the buzz about the new zodiac signs today people are beginning to wonder how it will affect the ways they eat and exercise. I am a Virgo and actually have not moved signs with the new chart. I’m now on the cusp of Virgo and Leo. I would say that is accurate since I am a classic Virgo in the traditional sense. Many astrologers have written articles on what types of diet and exercise are appropriate for each sign. For example, as a Virgo, an Earth Sign, I have always been told to eat light clean foods and avoid heavier diets. A heavier diet would cause me to feel sluggish and worn down. I also tend to be high strung which is why yoga and pilates are my recommended modes of exercise. Workouts that help me relax, not wind me up even further. I would say this is accurate, when I eat heavy foods for several days I usually don’t feel very good by the end of it. Many astrologers give advice on how to eat right for your sign, my personal favorite is Susan Miller. In fact, Susan has already been on Twitter saying that this whole “New Zodiac Sign” idea is bogus. I am inclined to believe her. Either way, here are some helpful tips for the best way to eat for your sign based on the four elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) that represent each sign, these tips should help keep you in tip top shape:
Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
These fire signs are known for their outgoing, fiery personalities. When selecting foods fire signs should lean towards grains, dark greens and root vegetables as well as dairy like yogurt. These will all work to balance out the fire within. Spicy foods and red meats should only be consumed in moderation.
Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
These air signs can be nervous and jumpy and do best eating lightly steamed vegetables, nut proteins and non-yeasted breads. They should avoid raw foods and refined sugar, both of which can adversely affect the nervous and digestive systems.
Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Earth signs, like me, need to watch their weight and should avoid heavy foods that will make them feel sluggish. They should focus on whole grains, root crops, and dairy.
Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
These signs are especially susceptible to germs and flu-like colds. They should eat beans, fruit, wheat, rice and oats. They should avoid foods that have excess water content in order to maintain balance.
