Everyone here at the family Kitchen loves Nutella. We’ve made lots of Nutella offerings, like cupcakes, crepes and paninis you can find here. Here’s my latest Nutella creation, a rich, chewy chocolaty brownie covered in cream cheese frosting. I made these last night for my husband’s coworkers at his internship. It’s his last week there, and he had to do an inservice today. Today was also my son’s first day of preschool. We’ve been telling my son for the past year, when Daddy’s done with school, you can start school. He was so excited this morning. He had his Toy Story backpack and his Cars 2 lunch bag filled with yummy treats. I saved a couple of these brownies so we could enjoy a treat this afternoon when I bring him back home.
Nutella Brownies with Cream Cheese Frosting
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup Nutella
1 stick butter, melted
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 stick, or 1/2 cup butter, softened
1 block (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
nonstick spray or additional butter to use for greasing the baking dish
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine eggs, sugar, vanilla extract and Nutella in a large bowl, whisk well. Add melted butter a little at a time until it is all combined.
2. In another bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet, and mix until just combined.
3. Pour batter into a 9 x 13 baking dish that has been buttered or sprayed with a non-stick spray. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes, or until they pass the toothpick test.
4. While brownies are still warm, combine cream cheese and butter for frosting. Whisk until well combined. If these two ingredients aren’t mixing well, micrrowave for a few seconds, then whisk again. Add sugar and mix well. Pour frosting over warm brownies, enjoy!
Tip: To get clean slices, refrigerate brownies overnight before slicing.
